Hints and Tips
Getting Yuffie
You can get Yuffie as early as before entering Junon. If you are lucky, she will fight you
in the forests of the Junon Area. She has 800 HP and does cool attacks that she seems to
forget after you get her. After defeating her in battle, a screen will come up with Yuffie
lying in a field, huffing and puffing. The next part is critical if you want Yuffie.
Walk up to her and talk to her, do NOT try to save, she will call you a loser or something
and steal some gil and run off. If that happens, you have to find and fight her again.
When you talk to her, she calls you a spiky-headed jerk and asks you to go at it again.
Answer, "Not interested". Now she thinks you're a chicken. Tell her you're "petrified". She'll
say she's going to leave to which you reply, "Wait a second!" She will ask if you want
her to accompany you. Say "That's right" Then she'll start into a rant and you say,
"Let's hurry along" She will chase after you and then tell you her name.
If you get Yuffie before entering Junon, when you reach Costa Del Sol, she will be at the
materia shop helping to sell materia. when you talk to her, you will find that more
materia was available than if she was not with you, or if she was in your immediate party.
Item Duplication
First, you must have the W-Item materia. This is obtained in Midgar on Disc 3. When you
enter the subways, walk towards the bottom of the screen and keep going that way until
you find a dead end with the materia and a save point.
After equipping the materia, enter into a battle. Select the item to be duplicated
(ex.
Potion) Then select a target for the item (ex. Cloud) Then select another item (it
doesn't matter which) At this point the cursor should be pointing to a person. Cancel the
second item. Then choose the item again. Cancel again. The number of the first item will
increase by one each time you select and cancel the second item. This only works on items
that can be used in battle.
Getting Vincent
Vincent is sleeping in the Shinra Mansion. To enter the room he is in, you need the
Basement Key.
To get the key, you must open the safe on the second floor. The combination to the
safe is Right 36, Left 10, Right 59, Right 97.
The combo is the same color as the background for those people who want to find it the
hard way. To see it, just highlight it.
To find the combo the hard way, read the note on the first floor.
(HINT: the fourth number is in invisible ink)
When opening the safe you must remember, if you go past a number, do not backtrack,
because it will think you're going the other direction. To correct your mistake,
keep going all the way around. It takes time, but it's worth it.
After you open the safe you will have to fight the lost number. It's not too difficult.
The reward for his defeat is Odin materia,
Cosmo Memory, and
the
Key to the Basement. Take the key to the basement and open the locked door. Talk to
the coffin and find Vincent. After talking to you, he gets depressed and goes back to
sleep. Leave and start back upstairs. He will stop you and ask about Hojo. After you tell
him he can meet with Hojo, he will join you.
Turtle Paradise Flyers
Finding the six Turtle's Paradise Flyers will net you a
Power Source,
Guard Source,
Magic
Source,
Luck Source,
Mind Source,
Speed Source, and a
Megalixir.
#1: Sector 5 Slum - Midgar, East side of town in boy's room.
#2: Shinra Lobby - Midgar, Bulletin board.
#3: Ghost Hotel - Gold Saucer, On wall in front of item shop.
#4: Tiger Lily Arms Shop - Cosmo Canyon, Next to the counter.
#5: Shildra Inn - Cosmo Canyon, Rear wall

After viewing the flyers, enter the Turtle's Paradise in Wutai and talk to the bartender to receive
the prize.
GP For Gil
Every once in a blue moon, when you enter the Gold Saucer ropeway area, a man will be
standing in the very back of the screen, behind the save point. He will allow you to exchange
10,000 gil for 100 GP.
The Dating Game
It is possible to date Aeris at the Gold Saucer of course. But you can also date Tifa,
Yuffie, even Barret! It's as simple as keeping in one character's good graces, while
dumping on the rest.
Infinite Sources
There are enemies that you can morph into each source (
Power Source,
Magic Source, etc).
The easiest are
Power Sources. You can morph a Heavy Tank at the Gongaga Reactor for a
Power Source. All of the monsters in the Gelnika Plane can be morphed into different sources.
Dig Site
Along with normal items, two key items can be found at the Bone Village excavation site.
The Key to Sector 5 is found on the upper level around the billowing smoke.
The Lunar Harp is on the lower level at the nose of the downed jet.
Materia Caves
There are four caves in the world that store natural materia.
#1: Knights of the Round - Unmarked. Northeast corner of the map. You must have a Gold
Chocobo to reach it, NO exceptions.
#2: Quadra Magic - Northeast of Mideel. Use a Blue Chocobo.
#3: HP-><-MP - West of Rocket Town. Use a Green Chocobo.
#4: Mime - North of Corel. Use a Black Chocobo.
Tifa's Piano
On Disc 2 or 3 go to Tifa's House in Nibelhiem. Go upstairs and play the piano. Make sure
Tifa is in your party. Here are the buttons for the proper music:
PSX:

.
PC: [CANCEL],[SWITCH],[MENU],[PAGEUP]+[MENU],[PAGEUP]+[SWITCH],[CANCEL],
[SWITCH],[MENU],[PAGEUP]+[CANCEL],[OK],[CANCEL],[SWITCH],[CANCEL],[START].
This is a portion of the Highwind theme. The first time you play it, 1 gil will drop from
the keyboard. Next time, Tifa will say she has the sheet music for the song, and finds a
letter from Zangan containing her level 4 limit break.
It is rumored that an Elemental materia will also fall out, but I have not confirmed this.
Aeris' Ghost
After you obtain the Key to Sector 5, return to the church. If you look quick enough, you
can catch a glimpse of Aeris tending to her flowers.

Weird.
